Halloween in Other Countries By Jay B.

There has been a massive surge in the celebration of Halloween. Below I will explain in detail how Halloween is celebrated in some countries across the world.

Australia and New Zealand - By America's influence, there has been a tremendous increase in the celebration of this holiday. It has been reported that Halloween sales have been on exponential increase throughout the past five years. Trick-or-treating is in effect but is rare and limited only to the trick-or-treaters neighborhood. Halloween parties are more popular then trick-or-treating. On the night of Halloween, horror movies and TV episodes are aired.

Romania - Romania celebrates Halloween around "Dracula", the famous vampire. There are many costume parties that revolve around the character. It is also claimed that the spirit of Dracula lives there today because Romania was a place where many witch-trials had taken place which are reinacted by actors on Halloween.

The Netherlands - Since the early 1990s, Halloween has become increasingly popular in the Netherlands. There has been an increase in Halloween sales in the past 20 or so years. Students and children dress up for Halloween but trick-or-treating is uncommon because Halloween does interfere with the Dutch holiday, St. Martin's Day. However, on November 11, children walk around ringing doorbells hoping to receive a treat after singing a song dedicated to St. Martin which can be related to trick-or-treating in a way.

Sweden - There is quite a bit of a mix up in this country with Halloween. The Church of Sweden declares their All Saints Day on Halloween. Due to this, many Swedes are unaware that Halloween is a non-Christian holiday in English-speaking countries. Retail business organizations introduced Halloween to Sweden in the mid-1990s.

Other countries that have been increasing Halloween celebration would be Germany, Japan, and Spain. This was of course due to American cultural influence.

Buy a Costume - Adult and Kid Costumes and Wigs By Simon Tattersall

Did you know that costume parties were considered scandalous in England for a long time, because folk associated them with low values? In the United Stats, however, dressing up has been accepted primarily because of the huge popularity of Halloween and pantomimes. Most of my favorite childhood memories are of Halloween costume parties, where I guess I pretty much covered the entirety of superheroes. The best bit is that costumes are still an integral bit of our Halloween, though we've grown too old for trick-or-treating rituals.

In the West, costume parties are most probably to have started in England. The masked affairs of the eighteenth century were perhaps the 1st costume affairs. Under Queen Victoria they introduced costume parties, which then grew in popularity. In recent times, both in Britain and in the US, costumes have become the center of all lot of modern celebrations. So a lot of of the favored scenes from films involve fancy dress parties, don't they? Do you recall Mean Girls, Bridget Jones's Diary, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Birdcage?

Scary or funny?

No surprise then that costumes and fancy dresses have become a big market to cater to the demands of the folk. There are two main reactions you would want to expect from folk when you choose to appear in a costume. Either want to frighten them, or elicit laughter. As a result, the most liked fancy dresses are ones of men and women from horror or comedy theaters. Dracula is one of the favorites, as are Laurel and Hardy and Charlie Chaplin. Recently, there is quite a rage in TV shows, such as Friends.

Pick and choose

So how can you get yourself a costume? 1st, naturally, you must choose what you want to be, after carefully evaluating the theme of the party. When you've done that, you have two options. You can go to a good costume store and try on several and finally decide on one. Who knows, when in the place, you may feel so taken with a certain outfit that you might give up your original costume thought completely. The 2nd choice could be look for a costume online, among the many sites that offer outfits. Though this is obviously the simpler choice, it could turn out to be more complicated than it seems. Particularly if your outfit arrives late, or if you discover that it does not fit or is made of sub-standard material, or that it is not how you had imagined it to be. It's not for nothing that they say, seeing is believing.

Make your own

Naturally, you can construct your own costume ensemble. This is especially useful for pantomimes, when you can make Robin Hood costumes from old leggings, adding trimmings to leather jackets and feathers to old hats. If you happen to possess some needlework skills also, you can create old dresses or costumes a complete new look and casually slip on a brand-new persona without costing more than a few cents. Now how's that - self-made costumes - for a new party thought?

Fourth of July Hats As a Symbol of Independence By David Lawson

Uncle Sam is the national personification of the United States. He's typically dressed in red and white striped trousers, blue tailcoat jacket, and a top hat with red and white stripes. He came to light when a famous cartoonist introduced him calling for new recruits during World War I.

The famous 4th of July hats are reproductions of Uncle Sam's hat that symbolizes the great power and patriotism of the United States. There are several July 4th hats to choose from that may vary depending on where you are planning to wear it.

Velour Fourth of July hats made with five blinking stars are ideal for a night time parade. The blinking lights are sure to blend into the merriment and its height of 8 inches is sure to stand out in the crowd. While a slightly oversized Uncle Sam top hat is excellent for Fourth of July parties and political events. Paper Uncle Sam top hats, on the other hand, are usually used on political campaigns or parades that require uniformity.

There are even July 4th hats specifically designed for cowboys. They are great for parades or rodeos and are made with adjustable velcro tabs on the inside. They are slightly shorter than the usual 4th of July hats, as they are patterned more on the cowboy hat than on the top hat.

Fourth of July hats are more than costumes worn on Independence Day. They have become the symbol of Independence itself. No patriotic celebration is complete without the presence of these red, white, and blue top hats.

Patriotic Costumes For the Fourth of July By David Lawson

Independence Day in the United States is celebrated with parades, fireworks and parties. These Fourth of July parties are usually themed and would require attendees to come in costumes. And many people use these venues to showcase their patriotism.

There are several ways to show patriotism on these costume parties and parades. The internet alone can give you a handful of ideas for patriotic costumes. You can come as Uncle Sam, Statue of Liberty or Betsy Ross.

President costumes are also good patriotic outfits that you may want to look into. There are several variations for this theme. The most common are Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and of course Barack Obama. Most of these patriotic costumes come in full regalia -- from the suit to wigs, hats or masks.

You can also express your love for the country by donning an Uncle Sam costume or an American flag inspired outfit. For the ladies, there are full length dresses or sexy ensembles inspired by the flag. Or better yet, you can be the Statue of Liberty, complete with the headpiece and torch. You can also wear a patriotic cheerleader outfit. It is usually a red dress with red, white and blue detailing and usually comes with one pompom. This simple get-up lets you express your patriotism without cramping your style.

Holiday celebrations are not just for merriment. They could also be venues for expressing your devotion to your country. Donning patriotic outfits on these occasions is a great reflection of Americans' sense of nationalism and support to the flag that they have pledged allegiance to.
